The Dodson & Horrell Chatsworth International Horse Trials are approaching fast and its shaping up to be a busy schedule for this stunning event held in the beautiful grounds of Chatsworth House. The weekend hosts a series of top class eventing competitions from Novice through to CIC3* with some of the very best competitors in the country taking part over the three days of competition. The inaugural Event Rider Masters also takes place at the horse trials over the weekend.

The first Eventing competition was recorded in France in 1902 and became an Olympic sport in 1912. Eventing in the UK started in 1949 when Badminton Horse Trials were held for the first time. The object of the event was to test Cavalry Officers’ chargers for their fitness and suitability. The sport comprises of three phases; dressage, show jumping and cross country.
The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials is the premier equestrian and social event in the international sporting calendar and a focus for the best horses and riders in the world.
The Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials are established in the eventing calendar. It has been running since 1990, attracting the best riders and thousands of spectators who come each year to watch the event.
Riders who regularly compete at Burnham Market include Team GB Olympians Zara Phillips, William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell and Mary King, and local girl and past European Silver Medallist, Piggy French.
The Nationals at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire is a particularly spectator friendly event where you can really get close to all the action thanks to the compact layout and access all areas format.
There is a variety of tradestands to browse and a choice of food and drink. Entry to the event is £10 per car, except for British Eventing members who have free entry, with all proceeds donated to charity including St Margaret’s Hospice and the Lifeboats. All profits from the event are also given to charity, and are split between various local groups in Yeovil.
