Hobbs is Equi-Trek's Frequent Champion

15th May 2015

Stephen Moore, of Equi-Trek Shaftesbury, presented jockey Richard Johnson with a Sonic horsebox at Wincanton races on Tuesday.

Richard was accepting the prize on behalf of trainer Philip Hobbs who won Jockey Club Racecourses Frequent Runner Championship which rewards trainers who run horses regularly at the four Jockey Club Racecourses in the South West region – Cheltenham, Exeter, Warwick and Wincanton.

The Hobbs stable wins a hospitality box with catering at The Festival at Cheltenham in March, 2016, plus a 12-month lease of an Equi-Trek horsebox.

Philip Hobbs, who was also leading trainer at Cheltenham (12 wins) and Exeter (12 wins) during the 2014/15 Jump season, said: “What a fantastic incentive that the Jockey Club and Equitrek have put on in the Frequent Runner Championship.

“We are always delighted to run horses at the Jockey Club’s South West courses as they look after us and the owners so well.

“It is great to win the Frequent Runner Championship and we look forward to having lots of runners again at the four courses this season.”

Sponsored by Equi-Trek, the 2014/2015 Frequent Runner Championship ran from October 2 up to and including May 12 (excluding the Cheltenham Festival and hunter chases). The aim is to reward trainers who run horses regularly at Jockey Club Racecourses South West.

Races in the Frequent Runner Championship were allocated a star rating (1 star to 5 stars). These are based on the average numbers of runners a race has attracted over the previous two or three years as follows:

1 star – 17 plus runners

2 stars – 15-17

3 stars – 12-15

4 stars – 8-12

5 stars – less than 8

Trainers were awarded full points for their first runner and half points for additional runners in the same race.

Hobbs finished ahead of Paul Nicholls (second) and David Pipe (third).

The top eight trainers on February 20, 2015, after fixtures at Exeter and Warwick, each won an all-expenses paid table for 10 at The Festival this year. The octet of trainers were Hobbs, Nicholls, Pipe, Colin Tizzard, Alan King, Nigel Twiston-Davies, Venetia Williams and Nicky Henderson.

Points awarded after February 20 counted towards the final scoring at the end of the JCR South West Jump season.

The Frequent Runner Championship was established in 1992. Initially limited to races run at Cheltenham, it was expanded to cover all four racecourses in the Jockey Club Racecourses South West region for the 2014/15 season and will continue this season.

Oliver Townend With Atom Horsebox

New ATOM Model gets the Thumbs Up from Oliver Townend

15th May 2015

The launch of Equi-Trek's brand new lightweight 3.5T horsebox model was a huge success and attracted a great deal of interest at Badminton International Horse Trials, none more so than from Oliver Townend himself (pictured).

The unique lightweight Equi-Trek ATOM horsebox is constructed using a revolutionary composite fused panel with properties similar to that of carbon fibre. This incredibly impact-resistant material not only increases strength but is also extremely lightweight. The ATOM therefore provides a strong, durable and a safe environment in which to transport your horse. With a remarkable unladen weight from 2,100kg, it offers the highest potential payload for this size of horsebox on the market.

When owning a 3,500kg horsebox, it is vital that you know what the payload is, so that you can calculate whether it is capable of carrying one or two horses, all your equipment, yourself and your passengers.

Built on a brand new Peugeot chassis with a powerful 150BHP HDI diesel engine, the ATOM not only offers you the very largest payload but it is also extremely easy and economical to drive. Furthermore, the lower chassis height ensures the utmost stability.

Having been in development for over 2 years, you can rest assured that no compromise has been made on the safety and strength of the ATOM horsebox, which carries full European and VCA Type Approval. The full height reinforced bulkhead between the horse area and cabin ensures the utmost safety for the driver, passenger and horses. In addition the floor is constructed of a sturdy aluminium planked flooring which is covered with a hard wearing rubber matting.

The horse area is well equipped with two rear facing stalls; incorporating a dual-height, padded collapsible breast bar, all round windows for light and ventilation, and a fully adjustable partition. There is a choice of four layouts as well as many other optional extras, according to your personal preference.

Leisure 'LV' Pack Example

NEW Leisure Vehicle Specification

22nd Apr 2015

Equi-Trek are delighted announce that we have now obtained full European Type Approval for ‘Motorcaravan’ (or Leisure Vehicle ‘LV’) status on two of our most popular models. This will benefit the private owner in many ways. For further information regarding the advantages of Motorcaravan status in your country of residence, please refer to your local Equi-Trek dealership and the relevant local authorities.

The Victory LV (4.5 tonne) and Valiant LV (5.0 tonne) (both 3 and 5 seat models) will benefit the private owner in the following ways:

1. No speed limiter:

The vehicle is only restricted to national speed limits and may travel of speeds up to 70mph on a motorway. Equi-Trek do not advocate travelling at excessive speeds whilst transporting livestock, however there are many occasions when it may be advantageous to the operator (i.e. when travelling unladen).

2. Use the third lane of a motorway

This is particularly useful at times of severe traffic congestion in the middle lane (i.e. lines of slow moving HGV's). It enables the operator to safely overtake slow moving traffic in the center lanes thus considerably reducing journey times and stress in your horse.

3. No Tachograph:

These models used privately do not require a tachograph to be fitted. Please note the standard Victory and Valiant models have full European Type Approval as 'Goods Vehicles' for the business user who is required to use a tachograph by law.

4. No MOT for the first three years:

After three years, the vehicle can be tested at a normal MOT testing station and does not need to go to a DVSA testing station for a HGV test.

Please note that the legislation quoted here applies exclusively to the United Kingdom and is correct at the time of publication. It is possible the legislation may differ throughout the rest of Europe; it is the operators responsibility to check and adhere to the local law.

New title sponsor announced for Equi-Trek Askham Bryan Horse Trials

28th Feb 2015

New title sponsor announced for Equi-Trek Askham Bryan Horse Trials

Equi-Trek, is the new title sponsor for Askham Bryan College’s spring Horse Trials which takes place on 7 & 8 March 2015.

Over the weekend, the college will run a number of different classes, including a new BE80 class, for which a course has been built this year, in addition to BE90 and BE100 level competition. In addition to the new BE80 class this March, the College is also adding a novice class for their October event and will be refreshing their existing BE90 and 100 courses over the forthcoming season in line with these developments.

Philip Grant, organiser of the college’s Horse Trials commented;

“We are delighted to announce Equi-Trek as our headline sponsors for our March horse trials. We look forward to working with them on what is now established as a quality event on the Northern circuit. We are very fortunate to benefit from the support of many notable organisations, including Equi-Trek, and it is wonderful that they will be able to come along and enjoy the competition and wonderful hospitality.”

The Horse Trials offer first-hand opportunities for the college’s  equine students to gain experience of both working and competing in an equine event. Over the course of the weekend, students get involved in all aspects of event planning, including supervising lorry and car parking, stewarding and pole picking to name a few, giving the students an insight into the world of equine eventing, and providing invaluable experience for their event planning modules at the college.

Askham Bryan College is holding two events this year, March 7 & 8 and October 10. Entries for the March event are now open.

Clark is anxious to keep herself in box seat

12th Jan 2015

REIGNING champion Aoife Clark has set her sights on a repeat win at Bramham with Equi-Trek confirmed as title sponsors for the fourth consecutive year.

This means another year’s loan of a Sonic two-horse box on offer – a prize fired-up Clark is reluctant to let slip from her grasp.

Irish ace Clark landed last year’s headline CCI three-star class at Bramham on board Fenyas Elegance to earn a £5,000 first prize and one of the most prestigious titles of her blossoming career.

Having also benefited from a year’s loan of an Equi-Trek 3.5 tonnes Sonic two-horse box, Clark has every intention of returning to retain a prize that has proved invaluable to her in the past year.

Clark, 33, says she did not know about the Sonic two-horse box on offer ahead of her 2014 bid for glory though there was no denying the satisfaction at taking it back down to her English base in Middle Barton, Oxfordshire after a glorious success in Yorkshire.

The Irish ace now describes the Equi-Trek bonus as the “best bit about winning Bramham” and with the same carrot on offer this June – plus a further £5,000 – Clark is counting down the days to another summer visit to Yorkshire.

Speaking exclusively to The Yorkshire Post this week, Clark said: “To be very honest I don’t really like to look at all the prizes before the event because you don’t want to get ahead of yourself. It might increase the pressure when having a rail down will drop you down the line.

“I wasn’t actually 100 per cent aware what the prize was last year, but we have not stopped using (the box) since and it’s the most brilliant prize. It’s still being used every day.

“It’s made a massive difference and I don’t know how we’ll cope without it. It just means I’ll have to go back and win it again– like it’s ever that easy. But I’ve all intentions of being back though I’m not altogether sure with what horses.”

Clark had initially earmarked Fernhill Adventure for her 2015 Bramham bid for glory and the nine-year-old remains a likely contender though he may instead be aimed at the CIC three-star class. Last year’s winner – Fenyas Elegance – is now being targeted at her first British CCI four-star bid for glory at Badminton in May.

But Clark has strength in depth and has vowed to send out a strong contender to contest the main honours at an event which will run from Thursday, June 11 until Sunday, June 14.

The Bishop Burton College Under 25 CCI three-star and the British Equestrian Trade Association CIC three-star combine with the Equi-Trek CCI three-star to produce one of Britain’s best loved fixtures.

Also on offer is top-flight showjumping, high class showing, young horse classes for future stars and some fast and furious Pony Club action, not to mention the shopping, food and Action and Adventure Zone.

Already champing at the bit ahead of 2015’s renewal, Equi-Trek’s Managing Director Tom Janion said; “Equi-Trek is delighted to renew its support of Bramham International Horse Trials in 2015, and for the fourth consecutive year we are especially delighted to be offering the winner of the CCI3 three-star an Equi-Trek Sonic horsebox.

“Bramham is a superb event which goes from strength to strength every year and continues to draw competitors from all over the world who compete at the highest level of the sport. The stunning parkland landscape offers Equi-Trek a superb location in which to showcase our latest horseboxes and trailers in our native Yorkshire countryside, offering spectators the unique opportunity to view and inspect our entire range.”

The online Box Office for the 2015 event is now open and to celebrate the partnership news, Bramham and Equi-Trek have teamed up for a superb competition.

Anyone who makes a ticket purchase between now and February 15 will be entered to win a lesson with Equi-Trek brand ambassador and Yorkshire favourite Oliver Townend.

Bramham Event Director Nicholas Pritchard added: “I’d like to thank Tom and the Equi-Trek team for their continued support. They’re great partners for the event and their investment allows us to continually up our game to produce a world-class fixture for riders, owners and fans alike.

“Their generous offer of a lesson with Oliver is a great incentive to get booking your tickets early.”

This weekend marks the start of the 2015 Yorkshire Area point-to-point season with Sunday’s meeting at Sheriff Hutton. A record number of 151 entries have been received for the seven-race card which raises funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Racing starts at 12 noon and the postcode is YO60 7TN. Admission is £10 per person and racecards are £3 each.
